The cotton manufacturer Francesc de Asís Mas built the steam-powered factory on the family’s old Indian meadow, in La Creueta district. What would become known as "Vapor de Baix" was built between the years 1856-57. Later on, some of the units of this factory were leased to other spinning and textile companies: Llunell, Ferrer y Cía and Ferrer, Vidal y Cía. The “cotton hunger” crisis resulted in the factory closing and in 1881 it was seized from Francesc Mas’s heir, Pere Mas, and auctioned off. In 1894, Ramon Sistaré became the sole owner of the steam-powered factory and when his son Amadeu succeeded him, he converted it to electricity. The factory has not operated for years, but the building has remained intact to date.
