Old Bas tannery

Reconquer the Rec

Old tannery dating from 1880. In 1894 the tannery was bought by Geroni Bas and was handed down generation by generation within the Bas family. After many years without an industrial use, the new owners renovated the building in 2013 and converted it into a gastronomic and cultural space “Somiatruites”, managed by brothers Xavier Andrés (architect) and David Andrés (chef).

Six years after opening the restaurant, in 2019, they built a new floor to house a hotel, crowned by a rooftop kitchen garden.

In both the renovation and the extension, architect Xavier Andrés has wanted to respect the original elements and materials and bring continuity to the industrial aesthetic of the Rec district, incorporating elements such as room windows in the form of lattices that imitate the hide drying racks of the tanneries.
